Many of you know of the terrible high school shooting tragedy that took place in Parkland, Florida yesterday. Please pray for those who fell victim to this horrible crime, and for the families and community who are picking up the pieces and trying to deal with it. Also for the perpetrator, as he needs prayers at this time as well.
At St. Michael, our top priority is for the safety of your children. We work diligently to keep our procedures and school safety systems in place at all times, and continue to look at best practices to improve on what we are already doing.
Our most recent lockdown practice was completed in January, and the LPD was on campus during that drill. We will continue to practice emergency drills so that they become well known to the students as part of our safety protocol. As partners in your children’s safety, please know that you also play an important part in the security of your children. Being aware of something that doesn’t look right or sound right can be a lifesaving piece of information. Please don’t hesitate to bring those to our attention. We thank you for entrusting us with your children and helping us to keep them safe.

The retreat for 1st Holy Communion has been moved to Thursday, April 19 from 8:00-3:00 at St. Michael. Initially it was scheduled for April 20.

for St. Michael K-8 grade students are coming home in Thursday folders today. Please complete these important forms and send them back with your students by the end of next week. The information that is returned on these forms helps us determine the number of staff needed for the 2018-19 school year. We thank you for your timely response.
MID TERMS FOR 3rd -8th GRADE
Midterm for 3rd quarter ends on Feb. 15. The reports will come out the following week on Thursday Feb. 22. 3rd quarter ends on March 12.
Our preschool information for the 2018- 19 school year was attached on last week’s note and we are accepting registrations.

M-W-F 8:00-11:15 AM ½ day for 4/5 year olds is FULL - we will put you on a waiting list if you like.
M-F 8:00-11:15 ½ day for 4/5 year olds – we have just a few more places left
T-Thurs. 8:00-10:45 ¾ year olds - we have four places left.
There is a registration fee to enroll for preschool, and we take registrations on a first come first serve basis. If you have any questions please contact Jessica Hagedorn at email@example.com.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES FEB. 16
Optional parent teacher conferences are tomorrow, Feb. 16 and will be held from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM in scheduled 10 -15 minute intervals. Teachers may contact parents if they would like to schedule an appointment to talk about the progress of your student. Parents are welcome to contact individual teachers as well and set up an appointment during this time. Please email the teacher if you would like to set up an appointment for you and your student. INFORMATION CONCERNING THE FLU
St. Michael has had very few cases of diagnosed flu (10) but we feel it is a needed communication to let parents know the symptoms of and differences between colds and flu. Please remember that children need to be symptom free, including fever free without pain relievers, for 24 hours before returning to school. When a student is diagnosed with flu, the typical number of days absent is between 5 and 7 days. Please check with your health care provider for more information. Thank you!
Cold vs. Flu
A cold is a milder respiratory illness than the flu. While cold symptoms can make you feel bad for a few days, flu symptoms can make you feel quite ill for a few days to weeks.
Most flu symptoms gradually improve over three to five days, but it's not uncommon to feel run down for a week or more. It is strongly recommended that staff and students with a fever over 100 degrees stay home until they are fever-free for at least a minimum of 24 hours without the aid of fever reducing medication. We recommend that students and staff also seek the advice of their medical provider in regards to use of antiviral medication and when to safely return to school.
REGISTRATION FOR 8TH GRADERS GOING TO PIUS X
Registration for Pius X for 8th graders going into 9th grade will take place on Feb. 20 at 10:15 AM. Pius counselors will be out to take registration forms that have been filled out online from the 8th graders. Please make sure that the below items come to school with your 8th grader to complete the registration process.
1. Their printed Registration Verification Form-with all classes on it.
2. The completed Tuition Agreement Form.
3. Grandparent form-if desired.
4. ACH-Automatic Withdrawal Form-if desired
5. $175 registration fee.
TOTUS TUUS 2018
Is scheduled for the week of June 11 – 15 2018 for grades 1st – 8th. Information and applications will be coming out in April.

BULLYING PRESENTATION AT ST. TERESA, FEB. 27
St. Teresa has offered this out to parents throughout the Diocese if they so wish to attend and listen to Jeff Veley, who is a well-known speaker with regards to bullying. He hands off tools to students to combat and support them if it happens. The details are below:

SCHOOL FAMILY ASSOCIATION MEETING
Our next School Family Association meeting will be held on February 20, 2018, starting at 6:30 in the Commons. Our SFA officers will give us an update on School Family Assoc. news, along with information regarding the Warrior Walk fundraiser, which will be held on May 4 this year. The SFA has also lined up a wonderful husband and wife team to speak at our meeting. Chris and Teresa Raun, longtime parishioners at St. Joseph Parish, will give a talk entitled: “Building a Family that stays connected to God, The Catholic Church, and Each Other.”
Please mark your calendars so you can be a part of this presentation. Babysitting will be provided from 6:20- end of meeting!!
